Christmas at Dokken

Welcome to a festive Advent season filled with traditional Christmas atmosphere at the Dokken open-air museum.

Experience a day full of sights, sounds and scents at the opening event on 29 November, featuring historical Christmas decorations, family workshops, dancing around the Christmas tree to organ music, traditional crafts, music and theatre – and the herring town recreated in gingerbread!

Haugesund Husflidslag offers activities, displays of beautiful Christmas goods and a raffle. Cantus Vitale sets the mood with beautiful choral singing and period costumes. Haugesund Children’s and Youth Theatre invites you into the magic of Christmas. Haugalandmuseet fills the museum grounds and historic houses with life and festive atmosphere.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday until 20 December: weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm and weekends from 12 noon to 5 pm. Come and see how homes were decorated for Christmas during different periods in history. People of all ages from the Haugaland region contribute to a wonderful and fragrant gingerbread exhibition depicting Haugesund, displayed in the cradle of the herring town.

Beautiful Christmas gifts are available from the museum shop. At weekends, the café serves Christmas biscuits, baked treats and gløgg (Norwegian mulled Christmas drink).
