Aktuelt Dokken Museum
Travel back in time!
Date: Thursdays
Every Thursday from April to June, we welcome you to the Herring Museum at the Open-Air Museum Dokken. Only 850 m from Our Saviors Church.
Just across the bridge to Hasseløy (“Bakarøy”), you’ll find Dokken Museum, which tells the fascinating story of old Haugesund. The museum represents an important part of the town’s environment during the herring era and shows how people lived between 1850 and 1950.
The buildings are furnished with authentic period exhibitions, including living quarters, a herring salting facility, a cooper’s workshop, and a general store. The boathouse houses an extensive boat exhibition, and through the photo exhibition “Life Between the Houses” we gain insight into a daily life very different from our own. The green courtyard at Dokken is a charming play area and a perfect spot to bring the family.
Guided tours at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 (included in the ticket).
